Searching Daily   -   Series

f the representation of everyday objects or spaces is a way of pursuing an ideal life, then observing people's everyday behaviors, habits, and even ideologies is my way of seeking an ideal form of coexistence and interaction—a connection between myself, others, and society.

My artistic practice centers on everyday life. The Chinese term “尋常” (xunchang) can be understood on two levels, offering insight into the context and direction of my work. In its conventional sense, it refers to what is usual, commonplace, ordinary, or commonly shared. Alternatively, the term can be divided into “尋” (to seek) and “常” (the ordinary), suggesting a search for the ordinary within everyday life itself. My practice focuses on identifying the similarities in people's habits, as well as their outward and less visible behaviors. Through my work, I magnify and bring attention to the small, repetitive cycles that shape everyday life.

Through self-examination and introspection, I seek to understand the motivations and emotions underlying my artistic practice. Drawing on my upbringing, family background, historical context, and social structures, I reflect on my personal experiences and sense of distance from society. Through stone sculpture, I attempt to translate these experiences into tangible forms and imbue my work with emotion. By observing both others and myself in everyday life, I seek to understand patterns of human behavior, the habits accumulated through daily experiences, and the fragments that collectively form a picture of our lives. Through this process, I aim to gain a deeper understanding of human nature while engaging in self-exploration, self-reflection, and self-realization.
